Module 2
July 3, 2010 Sorry I'm a bit late in posting...I've been fighting "walking pneumonia" and lost a few days. But here is my latest:
George Siemens discussed the growing acceptance of distance education in today’s corporate and educational spheres, including three possible elements of distance education that are creating more effective learning experiences and giving distance education an identity of its own distinct from F2F courses: (a) global diversity, (b) communication, and (c) collaborative interaction. Do you agree or disagree with his view?
Select one of these three elements for your reflection this week and respond to the following in your blog:
•How has this element evolved?
•What online tools are available today to facilitate these interactions among learners?
George Siemens' discussion involving the three identities of distance education was very interesting and I agree with his view adding my own opinion:
global distance learning is rapidly advancing as education has become a factor in hiring and training. This alone would encourage those in business to be more attracted to students who, in some format, have had experience with a type of distance ed. More so than a student with only f2f experience inside a classroom.
Communication lately has become a prime factor in interacting online with the global community at large. Every entertainment media has latched on to "facebook" and "twitter" and (even though its waning)"myspace". Seeking audience interactions seems to be the most popular type of participation that does a better job than Nielson ratings. I suspect there will be some sort of "media wars" for popularity and a piece of the network scores withn the very near future.
